Women's Health

As women, particularly if you are a mother, it is your responsibility to practice self-care.

Self-care? I have not got time for that! This is what I hear all the time from my dear mothers.

So I then go on to say….

“Taking care of yourself is the most powerful way to begin to take care of others.”― Bryant McGill,

Many moms feel a little guilty when they do things for themselves, especially when it means they aren’t doing something with or for their kids. However, let’s remember the fundamental part of parenting. You are the teacher. So your actions and who you ARE more than what you say will teach your child how to be….

So, when you constantly put your own needs aside for others (even your kids’), your kids learn to devalue themselves. They may start to believe that in some way other people’s needs and feelings are more important than them and their needs and feelings. I grew watching my mother practice no self-care at all. Perhaps she was never told how important it was or perhaps it’s a cultural phenomenon that women have to give of themselves to others and leave themselves to last. Times have changed though and extensive research shows that self-care is in fact the most profound act you can do for yourself and nonetheless for others, including your children. Self-care will fill you up, self-care will prevent you from reacting to life situations but rather respond to them mindfully, self-care will fill you with confidence which you will mirror back to your kid, self-care will reduce stress, anxiety and leave you happy and fulfilled.

Because when mum is happy, the entire household with thrive.

So please don’t feel guilty to care for ‘self’ a lot more…
